Both cities are already busy planning and organising numerous events. With 2024 less than two months away, the next European Green Leaf cities will have much to offer.
Elsinore plans a more intimate plaque unveiling ceremony on 29 January 2024 while Velenje will organise a two-day event from 14-15 February, with the intention to invite the network. More details to come.
Elsinore will also focus on citizen engagement by proposing a course on green community drivers, involving all interested parties in the Climate Action Day on 25 April, filling it with activities across the city and among all citizens. As the slogan of the Danish city for its European Green Leaf title year is ‘sharing is caring’, mobilising citizens is key and at the centre of all foreseen activities.
The project of “Green Community Drivers” aims to promote the climate agenda through various communities among citizens, residents and associations in Elsinore to encourage everyone to make more climate-friendly choices. A green community driver is a citizen who wants to be involved in biodiversity and encourage other members of his community to follow his path. His role is to spread good practices and advice on how to become greener and more sustainable in the little tasks of daily life.
Partnerships are also in the making with local companies and institutions planning to take the projects even further by collecting new ideas to grow even faster.
From 9-15 September, Elsinore will organise many events for ‘Climate Week’. More details will be available soon.
Velenje is also ready to take over the title of European Green Leaf 2024 with the slogan ‘we change, we move, we grow’. Educational campaigns, international conferences and exhibitions are already in the pipeline for the Slovenian city. One of Velenje’s main projects is a new planning process for its green areas, mobility measures and waste collection points.
