Youngsters attending the event learned about a range of water-related concepts to help them see water differently.

The Bucharest-Ilfov Regional Development Agency recently hosted 'Water Resilience: A Strategic Element for a Sustainable Future'. The event was aimed at educating youth on preventing water pollution and promoting sustainable water use through an outdoor workshop and a tour of the Glina wastewater plant.

It included a workshop 'Activity about Water' held at the arena in Dendrological Park, Branesti. Children learned about the concepts of living water vs. dead water, abiotic and biotic parameters, Bio Indicator species, and listened to stories that highlighted sustainable water use and protection.

The second part of the event featured a guided tour of the Glina wastewater plant. The plant is Romania’s newest and best, having been nominated for the Wastewater Project of the Year category at The Global Water Awards 2024 in London.

The complexity and immense responsibility involved in treating water sustainably and completing the cycle, from extracting it to returning it to nature, wowed everyone. The children were truly amazed!

The event highlighted the need for responsible investments to prevent water pollution and promote sustainable water use – all vital for achieving a #WaterWiseEU.
