Big changes start small: For Our Planet campaign for nature and climate kicks off

The Commission and the European External Action service launch the second edition of the #ForOurPlanet campaign.

People planting trees and bushes

From 19 February until 31 March, we're inviting citizens and organisations to join and take action for nature and climate, whether it’s planting trees, attracting pollinators, talking to schools and students, or restoring polluted habitats.

Dozens of Commission Representations and EU Delegations – the EU embassies – are leading by example and have scheduled actions across the world. Will you join, too?

Why should I join?

Whether you live in the city, the suburbs or in a remote rural area, there’s always something you can do. And remember, big changes often start small! Planting a tree or greening your roof, your balcony or pavement is not just a symbolic act: it brings life to your doorstep. Literally.

Simple actions can help to cool cities, attract pollinators, reduce stress and anxiety, or just make your house and neighbourhood more pleasant to live in. If you want to plant a tree, just be sure to plant the right species, in the right place and at the right time. Our guidelines can help you with that!

Joining the campaign is simple: take a picture of your action or let us know how you want to act for nature and climate by posting on your favourite social media, using the #ForOurPlanet hashtag! See examples of other actions across the world, and for more questions, email EU-FOR-OUR-PLANETatec [dot] europa [dot] eu (EU-FOR-OUR-PLANET[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu).

Want to take it a step further? Register your newly planted trees and contribute to the EU’s 3 billion trees pledge.

What's it all about?

#ForOurPlanet was organised for the first time in autumn 2022, in the context of the United Nations negotiations on climate change (COP27, Sharm El Sheikh) and the first-ever global biodiversity agreement (COP15, Montréal). More than 70 actions were taken by Representations and Delegations in only a few months, expressing large scale support for ambitious action at those negotiations.

The world has changed since then, but taking actions to address the triple climate, biodiversity and pollution crises has never been more urgent. With #ForOurPlanet, the organisers invite everyone to take a small step, leading to big change. To act, not just talk, and bring nature back into our lives.
