Once again, the EU Ecolabel - the official European Union label of environmental excellence, which contributes to the clean and circular economy with a zero-pollution ambition for a toxic-free environment and climate neutrality – has reached the highest ever registered number of awarded licenses.
Today, EU Ecolabel counts 2 270 overall granted licences, with 31 being awarded in the past six months. Moreover, the vast majority of EU Ecolabel product groups, (17 out of 24), have witnessed an increase in both the number of awarded licences and products. This shows a growing interest in green products from businesses, citizens and retailers.
EU Ecolabel’s product groups keep diversifying! New criteria in product groups ‘Personal and Animal Care’ and ‘Growing Media and Soil Improvers’ have been added, now making sustainable criteria available to a larger panoply of products.
The slight decrease in overall products holding licenses can be explained by the renewal of product criteria, which is regularly strengthened in order for EU Ecolabel products to uphold to the highest environmental standard.
The fastest growing product group over the past six months is Indoor Cleaning Services with an increase of 24% and a total of 122. Lubricants come second with an increase from 451 to 510 products, a 13% growth. Then come Industrial and Institutional Laundry Detergents and Hard Surface Cleaning Products with a growth of 11% and 9% respectively.
