Winterswijk exhibits together with entrepreneurs in Grenoble during European Green Week 2022

The European Commission organised the European Green Week from 30 May to 5 June 2022 with the theme recycling raw materials and saving energy. The theme was fully in line with the objective that Europe should be circular and climate neutral by 2050.

Winterswijk won the European Green Leaf Award 2022 as the smallest municipality ever. Therefore, the Achterhoek region wants to promote sustainability at home and abroad and therefore draws attention to Winterswijk's examples in the field of sustainable building and infrastructure. In these two areas there is much room for environmental gains. Good examples are building with renewable materials or recycling raw materials. In public spaces, a great deal of reuse of materials already takes place, but the municipality is always looking for ways to improve. Winterswijk is therefore experimenting with low-temperature asphalt and asphalt that absorbs CO2.

Mayor Bengevoord of Winterswijk is proud of the exhibition: “It is nice to see the enthusiasm and innovative power of Winterswijk being shown abroad in this special year of sustainability.” The exhibition can be seen in Grenoble until 30 June, after which it will be shown in the Netherlands.

For the exhibition Winterswijk is working together with Grijsen Park & Straatdesign, WAM&VanDuren Bouwgroep, Aannemingsbedrijf H.J. Te Selle B.V., the Winterswijkse IJs Vereniging, Dekalu, Bij Dageraad and Cirkelregio de Achterhoek.
